Museum Of The Future Dubai

 One of Toronto's most impressive landmarks, the Museum Of The Future is a modern glass and steel skyscraper designed by Shaun Killa. Its unconventional shape represents both art and engineering in an exciting blend that celebrates creativity and innovation.

Established by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Innovation City serves as a hub for creativity and invention with its mission "See The Future, Create The Future". Additionally, it's home to an innovative new initiative called 'Great Arab Minds'.

Dubai is renowned for its modern glass-and-steel skyscrapers, but Museum Of The Future Dubai stands as a bridge between them both with an amazing architecture craft that pushes boundaries to their limit. This torus shaped building clad in stainless steel was named one of National Geographic's 14 most beautiful museums worldwide and sits along Sheikh Zayed Road - Dubai's main highway.

Shaun Killa designed the museum at 77 meters high and covering 30,548 square metres, featuring an oval shape to symbolize humanity, Earth as represented by its green mound below it, and an unknowable void as symbolic of mankind's uncertain future.

This museum is the first building of its kind to be constructed in the UAE and an example of sustainability. It achieved LEED Platinum status through parametric design, passive solar architecture, low-energy and low-water engineering solutions, recovery strategies for energy and water, as well as building integrated renewables.

Designed to inspire

Museum Of The Future, situated in Dubai's largest city, seeks to inspire and engage its visitors. Through exhibits, publications, and public events, it seeks to address some of humanity's biggest challenges such as space exploration, climate change, and mental health.

This building, designed as an oblong torus, is covered with 1,024 stainless steel panels adorned with Arabic calligraphy inspired by quotes from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Prime Minister. Each panel represents one kilobyte in digital computing; additionally, these inscriptions serve as window designs on its curved facade.

Sustainability was the driving force behind this project from its inception, with parametric design tools employed to optimize efficiency of primary structural diagrid, facade and glazing elements. The end result is a low carbon civic building achieved through passive solar architecture, building integrated renewables and recovery strategies for energy and water.

Designed to engage

Aside from being an eye-catching structure, the Museum Of The Future Dubai is designed to engage visitors. This means it's not simply an art gallery or science museum - this is a place where we can witness how technology will shape our world in the future.

The 78-meter high building contains seven storeys, each dedicated to different exhibition spaces. Some showcase current technological research while others showcase technologies still in development.

One of the purposes behind its creation was to motivate residents of Dubai to find solutions for the numerous difficulties they confront. In order to do this, it displays cutting-edge ideas, styles and materials.

Designed to challenge

The Museum Of The Future Dubai is an inspiring cultural institution, dedicated to tolerance and creativity. It will host exhibitions, theatre performances and research. It serves as a meeting ground for innovators and designers from around the world who wish to share their ideas with everyone.

The building's curvaceous oval form was inspired by an idea that has been around for thousands of years: the egg.

This project was intended to be a global icon, reinforcing the UAE's position as an innovation, design and architecture powerhouse. It also showcases how cutting-edge technologies can be employed to construct superior structures - including digital construction.

Designed to be fun

The Museum Of The Future Dubai is an immersive destination where visitors can get a glimpse into how the world might look 50 years from now. Intended to be entertaining and captivating, it demonstrates how next-generation technologies will enable us to lead more productive lives.

Its standout architectural feature is a torus-shaped shell, which appears as an eye watching over the city skyline. Architects created this striking design using advanced building modelling software.

Developed by the Dubai Future Foundation, the Museum Of The Future strives to inspire visitors to be future-thinkers. It features immersive scenarios of what the world might look like in 2071 as well as a play area for children to experiment and develop their own ideas.
